Original Artworks of
Engr. Candido R. Talosig, Jr.
I painted these artworks from my fascination with the nature of light. My curiosity with the behavior of light and the title of the art piece were my inspiration for all of my art pieces.
The intersection between Art and Engineering is light.
This curiosity extends back to my chiIdhood when shadows and flickering candle light fascinated me as the darkness crept deep into the night. Born out of this fascination were thoughts, ideas, and stories in my mind expressed by my sketches using ballpen or pencil when I was a boy. This carried through my elementary, high school, college years and even into my career as a Geodetic Engineer when I generated, evaluated, and analyzed maps as part of my profession. In furthering my technical expertise, I revisited my Physics books that I have used in my Physics subjects here in UP Diliman and considered space beyond the three (3) dimensions of length, width, and height, x-axis, y-axis and the z-axis or (x,y,z) coordinates of a map into Einstein’s Special Theory of Relativity wherein the line element for the space-time coordinates is given by ds2 = - dx2 – dy2 – dz2 + c2dt2 where t is time, (x,y,z) coordinates and c is the speed of light. In this theory of Einstein, when a body travelled the speed of light, length contracts and time dilates and that gravity can bend a light. The only body we know as of today that can travel the speed of light is light itself.
The light’s spectrum gives the color that we see and when light behaves this way then what we see with our eyes is not what it really seems to be; it is contracted and dilated. When the eyes received a contracted length and a dilated time signal or stimulation from light, the brain processes them and develops them further into an objective and subjective perception hence “beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.”
In my attempt to observe closely the contracted length and dilated time signal from a body that is travelling at the speed of light which is light itself and to differentiate an objective perception from a subjective perception of the stimulation that my eyes received from light in order to arrive at an objective understanding of the nature of light and see beyond what an open eyes can see, my technical expertise as a Geodetic Engineer intersected with the practice of art. This Normal Solar Spectrum coded by Fraunhofer Lines are the perspectives that guided me in my art practice.
I then further painted these art pieces to breathe life and to render an image to the title of the art piece and capture its soul and its spirit. Here is to share the same image to the viewers of the art piece.
